Own Boat Tuition - Power


Tiger Bay Training offers bespoke training aboard your own RIB, Sportsboat or other powered craft up to around 30 feet in length.

 

Alan, our resident RYA Advanced Instructor is available for half day, full day and multi-day tuition and promises friendly and relaxed expert instruction for beginners and experienced coxswains alike.

 

Whether you are looking to improve your berthing skills, build confidence, complete the RYA Level II/ICC qualification, pilot through Cardiff Bay Barrage for the first time or learn the finer points of high speed and night-time navigation, the team at Tiger Bay Training will be more than happy to help.

 

 

 

We now offer 4 half day modules discounted to a special price of only £99 weekdays, £125 weekends, each for up to 3 persons.  Do one module or do them all, complete them together over 2 days or split them over several weeks.  Successful completion of all 4 modules gives you all the skills needed to take your boat to sea and qualifies the candidates for the RYA Level II Powerboat Certificate (£10 per person certification fee applies).

Each module is also available as a Gift Voucher.

 



Module 1 - Let's get started - designed to provide all the basic skills needed to get you safely out on the water including : pre-start checks, boat handling, berthing, launch/recovery, collregs etc

 


Module 2 - Let's go to sea - covers all the practical skills needed to go to sea for the first time including : negotiating the Cardiff Bay Barrage (incl. VHF radio procedures), pilotage, driving at sea, buoyage and anchoring

 


Module 3 - Let's plan a passage - a theory module designed to get you confidently using nautical charts for navigation including : chartwork, tides and passage planning

 


Module 4 - Let's navigate at sea - puts all the other skills together piloting in and out of harbour and completing a navigation passage at sea, includes : traditional and GPS navigation, man-overboard, distress procedures (incl. VHF Mayday and flares) and towing

 

 

We also offer a special night-time module which makes an ideal gift for the more experienced powerboat handler.

 

Module 5 - Let's navigate at night - a combination of theory and practical learning covering the skills needed to pilot a powerboat at night
